Research Setup

The Research Setup tool helps you design qualitative research methodology, including interview guides for both participant and expert interviews.

What this section is about


Qualitative research requires careful planning of interview questions that align with your research objectives. This feature generates structured interview guides based on your research questions, along with initial codebook categories for later analysis.

When you should use this


Use Research Setup when you:
•    Are planning qualitative interviews
•    Need participant interview questions
•    Need expert interview questions
•    Want a starting codebook structure

How it works

  1. Navigate to Qualitative > Research Setup
  2. Import from Topic Explorer (optional):
    •    Select a previous topic exploration
    •    Pre-fills title, objectives, and questions
  3. Enter research details:
    •    Working Title: Your research title
    •    Discipline: Your academic field
    •    Degree: Bachelor or Master
    •    Language: German or English
    •    Objectives: Your research aims
    •    Research Questions: One per line
  4. Click "Generate Research Setup"
  5. Review generated output:
    •    Research context summary
    •    Derived research questions
    •    Participant interview guide (intro + questions + probes)
    •    Expert interview guide (intro + questions + probes)
    •    Initial codebook categories
  6. Adopt as Codebook:
    •    Select source (Participant, Expert, or Both)
    •    Click "Add as Codebook"
    •    Categories are created in your codebook

Important notes
•    Interview questions are suggestions - adapt to your context
•    "Probes" are follow-up questions for deeper exploration
•    Always pilot test interviews before data collection
•    Questions map to specific research questions
