Building a Codebook


A codebook defines the categories you use to analyze qualitative data. This tool helps you create, edit, and manage your coding categories.
What this section is about
Content analysis requires a systematic coding scheme. Each category needs a clear definition, coding rule, and anchor example. This feature provides a structured interface to build and maintain your codebook.
When you should use this
Use this feature when you:
•    Are preparing for qualitative analysis
•    Need to define coding categories
•    Want to import from Research Setup
•    Need to export/import via CSV
How it works
1.    Navigate to Qualitative > Codebook
2.    Create a new codebook:
•    Enter a title
•    Click "Create"
3.    Add categories manually:
•    Click "Add Category"
•    Enter: Name, Definition, Coding Rule, Anchor Example
•    Click "Save"
4.    Or adopt from Research Setup:
•    Generate a Research Setup first
•    Click "Add as Codebook" from that page
•    Categories are automatically created
5.    Manage existing categories:
•    Edit any field inline
•    Reorder using drag handles
•    Delete categories as needed
•    Save changes
6.    Export/Import:
•    Export CSV: Download current codebook
•    Import CSV: Upload categories from file

Category,Definition,Coding Rule,Anchor Example
"Challenge","Description of difficulty","Apply when...","Example quote"

Important notes
•    Use clear, mutually exclusive definitions
•    Anchor examples help with consistent coding
•    Export before major changes as backup
•    Multiple codebooks can exist for different projects
